Today there will be a 5K Paint Run. The race will start at 6 p.m. at North Oak Park. There is a $5 registration fee that can be paid on-site at 5 p.m. for students who have not yet registered.

Tomorrow Gumbo YaYa starts at 11 a.m. and will go on till 2 p.m. outside in the Student Union War Memorial Park.

Gumbo YaYa is a tradition at the university that the Campus Activities Board had planned for a long time.

“We’ve been preparing since last semester,” said Brittany Puma, Traditions Event Manager. “It’s something that happens every year, so we’re just constantly thinking of things for it.”

The celebration will focus around the Homecoming Theme this year is “Roomie’s Road Trip.”

“We decided to try to take the theme of Homecoming and incorporate some of our ideas,” said Puma. “We decided to make it sort of like the students are going on a road trip. This year will include themed stops representing different states. We’re going to have a mechanical bull that will be a stop in Texas, and we’re going to have a rock wall which will be a trip to the Grand Canyon.”

Also taking place tomorrow is the Minute to Win It competition at 7:30 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Teams will be able to participate in different games for one minute each.

On Tuesday the Roar Rally Spirit Competition will be held during the Bonfire at 6:45 p.m. at Cook Field. In this competition, students will showcase their pride for the university by performing a chant.

Immediately following the Bonfire will be the Lip Sync battle at 8 p.m. in the same location. Teams will present a five to seven minute performance.

Friday night at 7:00 p.m. will be the Alumni Awards Evening in the Student Union Ballroom where the Alumnus of the Year Billy Kennedy and the Young Alumni of the Year Zac and Cari Caramonta will be honored.

Saturday, Oct. 22 is the day of the Homecoming Parade and game. The parade will display floats made by campus organizations. This will start at noon and the game will begin at 4 p.m.

Winners of Sheet Sign, Downtown Decorating, float designs and other Homecoming Week activities and competitions will be announced throughout the football game. The winners of Minute to Win-It, 5K Paint Run, Roar Rally Spirit Competition and Lip Sync will be announced at the event along with the Homecoming Court winners.
