What does the Campus Activities Board really do for campus?

Campus Activities Board organizes events for students to have fun and socialize with new people. These events can range from CAB After Dark held during Welcome Week to movie nights. An informational will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. Annie Goodman/The Lion’s Roar

The members of the Campus Activities Board host many of the events around campus throughout the year.

“The Campus Activities Board is a direct avenue to an exciting variety of entertainment,” said McKenzie Tolson, CAB president. “We sponsor outdoor activities as well as lectures from prominent speakers. Add into this mix the Miss Southeastern pageant, movie nights, comedians and numerous special events, and you have CAB.”

On Monday, Aug. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., CAB tabled in the east end of the Student Union to tell students about an upcoming informational meeting they will be holding. This meeting, called Learn More About CAB, will be tomorrow at 4 p.m.

“We’re the Campus Activities Board, and we are setting up a table today because we have an informational meeting on Wednesday,” said Kirsten Babin, a sophomore biology major. “We are trying to get people to sign up to help us with all of our events.”

CAB is an organization comprised of students for students.

“The mission of the Campus Activities Board is to provide a wide range of educational and entertaining programs to meet the needs and wants of the Southeastern Louisiana University students,” said Tolson. “Through the use of student interaction on campus, Campus Activities Board encourages a diverse range of involvement and ideas to facilitate these programs.”

After being uninvolved, Babin thinks students should strive to be more involved on campus.

“I think this is important because we really want to get everyone involved on campus,” said Babin. “We want everyone to be able to come to our events and feel special and feel welcomed. I just think it’s really important for everyone to get involved because I know that when I wasn’t involved, I didn’t have any fun at Southeastern.”

Tolson believes it is important for students to socialize.

“CAB is important because students need other avenues to connect on a college campus,” said Tolson. “Classes are structured and stressful. It’s hard to be able to relax and get to know your fellow students.”

Babin believes joining CAB is a good way to meet people and make friends.

“Students should join CAB because it helps them get involved,” said Babin. “It helps them to meet new friends and meet new people and just to learn about Southeastern and have a fun time.”

CAB designs their events to allow student to have fun and learn lessons with more than fun in mind.

Tolson said, “Whether that be making new friends, learning something new, or just having something to do once they finish classes, we like to create an environment where students can connect and make friends to go through college with.”
