Homecoming Week festivities looked towards competition as student organizations participated in 60-second challenges for “Minute to Win It.”

The teams took the Strawberry Stadium field on Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. A fire alarm delayed the competition in the last challenge. Two teams participated in a tiebreaker at the “Lip Sync Contest” the next day, and team Thor won the competition.

“We started off strong, but once we had the fire drill, everything kind of went crazy,” said Member of the Homecoming Committee Mi’Yana Solomon, a sophomore nursing major. “But I think overall, it was a good night, and a lot of teams came out, and they had a lot of fun. A lot of people came out to watch, which I wasn’t expecting.”

Michael Thibodeaux, a member of Delta Tau Delta, shared his experience competing for the Batman team.

“It was fun to just get out and compete and just make new friends and just cheer everyone else on,” said Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux discussed how he feels “Minute to Win It” fits in with Homecoming Week.

“It fits the spirit because it’s a very high spirit time of year,” said Thibodeaux. “It makes the week a lot more fun.”

For Solomon, the event brought more unity to the school.

“Even though it’s teams competing against each other, we all came out to the same night, and we had a lot of fun,” said Solomon. “It’s just a way for us to all get together before the big game so we can all come out and make sure we’re packing the stadium.”
