Women’s basketball starts the semester with chicken and tailgating

Moved into the University Center due to weather, the “Back to School Bash” raised spirits leading to the women’s basketball team’s game against Houston Baptist University.

Hosted by the Student Government Association on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 5–7 p.m., the women’s basketball tailgate welcomed students to a new semester with free Chick-fil-A chicken, soda and live DJs.

“We were hoping that the tailgate would increase attendance at the basketball game and just really support the girls,” explained Jessica Litolff, a sophomore accounting major.

The unexpected location change from Cook Field to the University Center brought certain challenges to the organizers.

“Moving it inside was difficult because we rented a generator, but we don’t need it, and the forms to put it outside versus inside was a little bit more complicated,” said Litolff.

Jaila Golden, a sophomore biological sciences major, attended the bash for chicken and to volunteer with SGA.

“I’m just happy that people were able to find out that we moved it inside, so a lot of people showed up,” shared Golden.
