The Lions golf team competed in their last tournament of the season at the Southland Conference Men’s Golf Championships finishing in eighth place.
The three-day championship was played at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas from April 23-25.
In the last day of the tournament, junior William Meyers shot the lowest round of the day with the team shooting a 32-over-par in the final round.
Head Coach Jake Narro thought the team would have done better.
“I feel like they did OK,” said Narro. “They feel as if they could have done a lot better. We didn’t play as well as we had expected to play. So, we’re definitely a little disappointed.”
According to Narro, the strengths of the team lies in the effort given as a team and weaknesses in their inconsisitency.
Narro explained what was special about this season to him and the players.
“It was definitely a learning experience,” said Narro. “Last year, we had two seniors and two sophomores who were very, very experienced. Everybody that played had a lot of experience. This year, we had two freshmen play pretty much the whole year and then another sophomore who played his first year of college golf. So, we had a lot of learning to do out there.”
Narro discussed the team’s composition, which consists of no graduating seniors.
“We have a very young team,” said Narro. “We’re gonna be training a lot of people with experience next year.”
