Several competitions took place during Homecoming Week and consequently there were several winners.

From Monday, Oct. 17 to Saturday, Oct. 22, the games varied immensely. Event winners were announced at the Homecoming Game’s halftime, or during the event itself. Each was judged on different days, but were announced together.

Oct. 17 was the judging of the Downtown Decorating event. Teams were given one week, with warnings to be cautious about the weather, to decorate a willing businesses’ window. The theme of Homecoming, Roomie’s Road Trip, was the basis for how the teams decorated. Several of the businesses represented a different ‘stop’ on the mascot’s road trip. The first place winner of this event, Phi Mu and Kappa Alpha Order, decorated the road trip stop of Orlando, Florida. In second place was Theta Phi Alpha and Kappa Sigma and third place was Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Tau Delta.

After this event, students were able to participate in the 5K Paint Run, at 6 p.m. in North Oak Park. The winner of this race was Derrick McGalliard.

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the Lady Lions softball team finished the season by playing and winning two exhibition games. They won the first one against Faulkner State Community College 12-1. The second game was won 4-0 against East Central Community College.

That night, at 7:30 p.m., Minute to Win It was held at Strawberry Stadium. Teams were given a series of goals to complete within a minute. The overall winner was Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Tau Delta. Black Student Union and NAACP’s group won second place, while Theta Phi Alpha and Kappa Sigma came in third.

At the ‘Roar Rally’ Spirit Competition, students created a chant and the first place winners were Black Student Union and NAACP. In second place was Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Tau Delta and in third place was Theta Phi Alpha and Kappa Sigma.

The Lip Sync Competition was supposed to follow the Bonfire, but due to weather, it was pushed back until 10 p.m. and the winner was Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Tau Delta. The second place winners were Sigma Sigma Sigma, Theta Chi and Pi Kappa Alpha and the third place winners were Alpha Sigma Tau and Sigma Tau Gamma.

The Homecoming Parade float competition was won by the Baptist Collegiate Ministry followed by Phi Mu and Kappa Alpha Order and in third place was Theta Phi Alpha and Kappa Sigma.

The overall winners for Homecoming Week were Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Tau Delta.
