The Campus Activities Board held its first event of the year last week the Back to School Bash.
On Tuesday, Jan. 24 CAB borrowed two meeting rooms in the Pennington Student Activity Center for their bash, turned down the lights, brought out the glow sticks and turned the music up. CAB also provided a DJ, free popcorn, pizza and drinks.
Each of these kinds of activities are orchestrated by CAB. Each of the members get a chance to plan and be in charge of an event. Members help each other out throughout the process and during the event itself. Some of the students in CAB have different reasons for joining, but they all have to do with their want to be involved in and participate around the university.
“We don’t have to be working the event, but there’s only so many of us, and as a family, we all want to work and help out,” said Gabrielle Levet, a sophomore English education major. “I joined because I really wanted to get more involved in both the school and the community and get more involved on campus.”
Other members joined the board first, but then decided to switch over to participate more.
“I was in CAB last semester, well the CAB board, and this is my first semester working for CAB,” said Katlyn Daigle, a sophomore special education major. “I wanted to get involved. That’s why I joined the board, and well, here I am.”
Brennan Sarah, a freshman business administration major, was the planner and organizer for the event. He shared some of his thoughts for wanting to get it off the ground and finished.
“I love my job,” said Sarah. “Basically, for the experience I provide for the students, a lot of kids come to us for these events. In college they all do the work study stuff and all that and with my job, I get to provide them with a different environment throughout their college career.”
The event brought in a crowd of people who enjoyed the atmosphere and the ability to forget about school for a little bit.
“It’s a nice party, and because school is so hectic, even in the first couple of weeks, it’s a great way to come hangout and have a little fun,” said Payton Sawyer, a freshman communication major. “Personally, I like events like this, getting to spend time with friends and inviting more people to come along. I like attending stuff like this when I can.”
CAB puts a lot of effort into their events, and they hope to be able to help students create lasting memories.
“What my boss told me, which really got me, was that we could plan an event, throw it, and then someone could come to my event and meet the love of their life,” said Sarah. “That’s my drive, to see people’s reactions and faces when they experience our events.”
