The Lion's Roar

Finding food when the cafeteria is closed

After meeting with organizers from every level of Southeastern’s campus, the editors of The Lion’s Roar are now better prepared than ever to provide the student body with all the news it needs throughout the semester. There are no spoilers here, but you will get a hefty helping of advice, as always.

The Lion’s Roar has always advocated student involvement so that students find fulfillment during their college careers, but also for the self-serving purpose of insuring that there are exciting things to cover within its pages.  This editorial will be no different, however another level will be there, beneath the new activities, parties and the mountains of free food. Exciting changes are happening on campus; history is being made, precedents are being set. Now is the time to become visible on Southeastern’s campus because the time could not be more right.

Even if this is your breakout semester, do not neglect what is happening off campus. When living in college life, it is all too easy to become entrapped within the microcosm of the campus community. After all, are we not here to expand our opportunities, to build a life not involving dorm rooms and hour-long commutes? The world is changing faster and faster by the day, and opportunity always follows change. We live in a world where you can draw a picture and then have a 3-D printer make it into a physical form, or wear contact lenses that project images directly into the eyes, and yet this will be outdated within the next five years! We live in incredibly exciting times, and the next decade will be anything but dull. Will you let it pass you by, or will you make this future your own?

There are all kinds of change, mostly perceived as good and bad, but it is best to think of all change as good, even if the going gets tough (or downright impossible). These tough or impossible changes give us the opportunity to shine, and rise above adversity so that we may become better human beings. So during the course of the Fall 2013 semester, push yourself to rise to any challenge; but know that you are not alone. You are surrounded by people who are doing the same as you, so go out and meet them; make friends, join a group, get out there and experience what the world has to offer.
