Elaine Williams is coming to Southeastern’s campus for the first time to lecture about the importance of living healthfully and responsibly.
Williams’ lecture will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theater.
Williams is a certified life coach, and she uses her comedic talent to help educate students about healthy ways to live. She also uses her personal experiences of food, drug and alcohol addictions as examples of what can go wrong and how to make it better.
Chasity Jones, a sophomore psychology major, recently attended a conference in Atlanta to find an act to bring to Southeastern.
“I went on a conference to Atlanta, Ga. to find people to bring to our campus, and I saw many interesting acts. However, I felt like Elaine was different because she was not only entertaining but very educational and had the potential to change many lives on our campus,” said Jones.
“The first time I saw her was at an APCA conference,” said Jones. “She did a short mini lecture, which captured my full attention, and when Todd [McElroy] asked us if we had any ideas, Elaine Williams was the first thing out of my mouth.”
Williams’ lectures range from alcohol abuse and substance addictions to eating disorders and sexual assault. While Williams is at Southeastern, she’s going to focus on eating disorders, something that Jones feels is all too often overlooked. Jones has high hopes for the impact that Williams’ lectures will have.
“I am hoping that students will learn how easy it is to take care of themselves, how to prevent weight gain in the first place so that drastic means aren’t even necessary and to emphasize that our society’s image of beauty is a very fictional one,” said Jones.
