Hundreds of Southeastern students crowded into the parking garage beside Strawberry Stadium last Thursday night following the Greek Step Show to celebrate the end of Greek Week and receive the results of the competitions in which Greek teams participated in throughout the week.
Each Greek fraternity and sorority was divided into five teams and competed in baked goods and jambalaya cook-offs, Greek Games, a school supply drive, banner contest and step show.
Team Three including Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Phi Alpha and Kappa Sigma earned a total of 33 points and were the overall winners. The team placed third in the jambalaya and baked goods cook-offs, second place in the banner contest and first in the step show. They also tied in second place in the school supply drive along with Team Two, which included Alpha Omicron Pi, Sigma Gamma Rho, Phi Beta Sigma and Delta Tau Delta. All five teams were able to supply over 1,000 bags of school supplies to support continued education of students during the summer.
“I was happy to see the manifestation of all the hard work that we did over the week,” said Keonte Herrera, junior exercise science major and member of Alpha Phi Alpha. “It was a lot of long nights, but at the end of the day it was worth it all.”
At the end of the week all teams were winners and were thrilled to see that their hard work paid off. Team Two won the jambalaya and baked goods cook-offs. They also placed first in Greek Games. Team One, which consisted of Sigma Sigma Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, Theta Chi and Sigma Tau Gamma won the banner contest. Team Five, Phi Mu, Zeta Phi Beta and Theta Xi, won the school supply drive. Theta Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Order and Kappa Alpha Psi were all a part of Team Four and were the third place winners overall behind team two.
“All the hard work from the week finally paid off,” said Emily Kleinpeter, member of Alpha Sigma Tau. “We won first place. We were paired with such a great group of guys, Alpha Phi Alpha, the men of Kappa Sigma. It was such a fun experience we had. I’m so glad that we’re Greek Week champions.”
