On Tuesday night a small fire was reported in the server room located in McClimans Hall, which damaged some computing equipment, resulting in a loss of Internet and phone service throughout the campus.
According to a report made by the Office of Technology, the blaze started around 5:45 p.m. The Office of Technology also released a statement through university spokesman Rene Abadie regarding the cause of the fire and that all services that were shut down are now up and running.
“One of our uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units had an electrical fire, but all systems are up and functioning on the other UPS and generator power,” Abadie stated. “The timely response from the Campus Police and their coordination with the Hammond Fire Department, our Physical Plant staff, and the OT staff averted major problems. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and we are working on replacing our damaged UPS.”
More information regarding the fire will be released as it becomes available.
