On Tuesday, May 3, Southeastern held their 31st annual Division for Student Affairs (DSA) Awards Convocation honoring the hard work and dedication of the student body and faculty.
Many different awards, such as the Green “S” Awards and Who’s Who, were handed out by various organizations to a large group of individuals. Among the Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Awards that were handed out, Rachel Carazo was present to receive her accomplishment.
Multicultural and International Awards were given to various students, including Jacy Carpenter and Ashish Acharya. Recreational Sports and Wellness Awards highlighted students Vincent Rollo, Collin Klester and Corey Felder.
Greek Life gave out awards for Advisor and Greek Man and Woman of the Year to Lorraine Favre, Ross Barbier and DeAnn Lemus, respectively. Six students were awarded the Student Foundation Leadership, who received a scholarship that will be applied to next year’s tuition. The Student Publications Award was given to Christin Lorio.
The Community Partnership Award was given to Eddie’s Frozen Custard, the DSA Distinctive Service awards highlighted Cherie Kay Thriffiley and Hans Oberschmidt.
At the end of the night, the final two award recipients, William Takewell and Jenee Nicole Ratelle, were announced as the Outstanding Man and Woman of the Year along with video tributes about the accomplishments that led to this award.
“I cannot take all the credit for this reward without recognizing a lot of other people like my parents,” said Takewell.
Takewell is a junior organizational communication major, chief justice of the SGA and the founder of “The Big Event.”
Along with the new title of DSA Outstanding Woman of the Year, Ratelle is also the Homecoming queen and is involved in numerous other activities on Southeastern’s campus.
“It is an amazing award,” said Ratelle. “I am so passionate about the things that I have done here at Southeastern.”
Some had parting thoughts on the importance of showcasing the determination of others.
“I think that this was an amazing ceremony. It honors the hard work and accomplishments of a lot of people,” said Takewell.
