    Grounded moves into local church

Four weeks ago, local coffee shop Grounded Café moved two doors down from its former location into Crossroads Church of Hammond at 1006 N. Oak St.

Since moving into the church, their hours have changed to 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays. They are closed on the weekends. Grounded Café still offers all of the same menu items they served before the move, including coffee, biscotti, frozen lemonade and baked goods.

The staff is happy about the move into the church and enjoys working at the new location.

“We sent a proposal previously this time last year and it was denied, and due to high rent at our previous location, we re-proposed and it was approved,” said Grounded Café Manager Matthew Collier. “It’s more cost effective for us. We were so ready to get out of the old building.”

As far as business goes, Grounded Café has been seeing a steady flow of customers starting to come in over the weeks since their re-opening, especially now that the word is getting out that they’ve relocated.

“I’m stoked that they’ve re-opened. I love going there,” said senior history and education major Bryan Perissutti. “I’ve seen the barista come from behind the counter to bring stuff to customers a few times. That’s great; you don’t see that kind of service anywhere anymore.”

Business has been picking up for the café due to the new location. More people have been going in steadily each week.

“More people notice us,” said Collier. “It’s a more noticeable location.”

“It’s a pretty convenient location,” said biology pre-vet sophomore Sarah Mathis. “It’s within walking distance. And their prices are so good!”

Crossroads Church is located across the street from the McClimans Hall parking lot.
