The maintenance of an academic institution requires the hard work of hundreds of employees, from the janitors who clean the halls to the president of the university.
The Division for Student Affairs will host its annual convocation on Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom to award faculty, staff and students who have gone above and beyond to meet the needs of the Southeastern community.
“The purpose of the DSA Convocation is to recognize outstanding achievements of the students, faculty and staff involved in DSA programs and departments,” said Jim McHodgkins, assistant vice president for Student Affairs. “It is a celebration of what is the best of our students by recognizing them for their accomplishments. It also allows us to thank the recipients for their service to the university community.”
The departments included in the DSA are: Vice President for Student Affairs, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, Career Services, Recreational Sports and Wellness, University Police, University Counseling Center, Shuttle Services, Student Conduct, Student Publications, Student Engagement, Disability Services, Multicultural/International Student Affairs and Campus Activities Board.
Various departments will be giving out awards, including scholarships, to worthy recipients. The evening will conclude with the announcement of the DSA Outstanding Man and Woman of the Year award winners. Last year’s winners were Hunter Robinson and Shawndreka Gatlin, chosen for their dedication to the university.
“Last year’s recipients were chosen for their service and dedication to making Southeastern a better place for all,” said McHodgkins. “Their actions and scholastic talents were all taken into account. The award recipients rose above their peers as role models for our students.”
Other awards include Outstanding Freshman Male and Female, Most Outstanding International Student, Student Organizations Award of Excellence and Greek Man and Woman of the Year.
“The DSA Convocation allows us to show off what our students have accomplished while at the same time recognizing them for their accomplishments in front of their families, friends and peers,” said McHodgkins.
