The campus chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order, Epsilon Kappa, hosted the 2012 Kappa Alpha Order Horace H. White Province Council last weekend, and received several awards for their chapter’s service to the university.
“I think it’s great to be able to bring all of the KA chapters in Louisiana here,” said Kent Landacre, president of the Epsilon Kappa chapter of Kappa Alpha. “We were picked because of our excellence in what we have been doing, representing Southeastern well. We won pretty much every one you could win.”
Landacre went on to say that all of the attending members were honored and surprised at winning the awards. The conference is held every year, but in a location that most chapters are able to attend. The chapters that were able to attend were Nicholls State, Tulane University, Louisiana State University, Northwestern State, University of Louisiana – Lafayette, University of Louisiana – Monroe, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State and the hosts, Southeastern. In total, over 80 members of Kappa Alpha were at the conference.
“It’s usually in a different location each year,” said Liam Doyle, Kappa Alpha officer. “This year, the conference is being held at Southeastern.”
During the council, various workshops and meetings that address different topics, all aimed at improving the chapter.
“It varies from subject to subject,” said Doyle, “such as chapter excellence, academic excellence, recruiting workshops and ritual based workshops.”
