The ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho looked to teach women proper etiquette while boosting their self-esteem at the first “Pamper Me Poodle” event.
Pamper Me Poodle was held on Tuesday, Sept. 6 in the War Memorial Student Union. This event was a self-esteem and etiquette program in which young women learned the proper way to apply make-up while actively discussing self-esteem, chiefly concerning outer appearance.
Members of Sigma Gamma Rho offered refreshments and gave away relaxation and beauty products, such as lotions, make-up and mirrors. In addition to promoting self-esteem in young women, Pamper Me Poodle was dedicated to raising money for a young child in need.
“Little Jayden has recently been diagnosed with leukemia, and her family reached out to the community for support,” said Ebony Franklin, a nursing senior and Sigma Gamma Rho president. “We responded by making a commitment to help raise as much money as possible to make life easier on her and her confident.”
“It’s important to have high self-esteem because you are a better, more productive person when you know your own self-worth,” said Angela James, a counselor who held an open discussion with the group about the signs of low self-esteem and ways to overcome it.
Although the turnout was smaller than expected, “Pamper Me Poodle” was still successful in educating many young women in the importance of caring about their appearance in a healthy way. The program also taught women how important it is to build up a high self-esteem for oneself and build up others around them.
