Students benefit from many amenities provided by Dining Services including campus dining locations, meal plans and cub cash. The program is currently seeking students to serve as Campus Dining Ambassadors.
Dining Ambassadors were designed to assist the university in spreading awareness of the options on campus, gaining student feedback and enhancing the dining experience for students and visitors.
Ambassadors are responsible for the management of orientation information tables, dining membership registration, distribution of promotional and marketing materials, providing information and answering questions of customers and creating and executing campaigns and events including grand openings, Lion Pride Preview Days, orientation programs, appreciation days and traditional programs.
In addition to representing Dining Services at promotional and recruitment events, students will gain experience that can be used in professional settings.
“Students should apply because they get to learn personal selling and presentation skills,” said Christopher Simoneaux, Dining Services marketing intern. “Also you get to interact with potential students and parents at various recruiting events. Another reason is you get to meet new people and be on team that is goal-orientated and has your back when you need them to help you.”
Although the program is targeted toward students in the communication, marketing and business programs, all students are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should evaluate their ability to represent the program positively, engage customers and guests with empathy and energy and promote Dining Services and its programs. Candidates should also be sales-oriented and familiar with the university’s campus.
Simoneaux discusses the advantages of serving as an ambassador after his experiences with the program, which started in December of 2013.
“[The advantages include the opportunities to] work with professionals in the field of food service, learn how Dining Services and meal plans work, and being able to promote Dining Services,” said Simoneaux.
Ambassadors also benefit from free meals in cafeteria on the days of Dining Services events, promotion for student and Greek organizations in which their involved and incentives for meeting team sales goals.
He describes the many reasons students should apply, including networking with potential students and their parents.
“I would recommend this program for various reasons,” said Simoneaux. “Students learn real world practical skills in sales and promotions, [they] get to be a team and have goals to reach, have fun and meet some great people along the way whether that be dining staff or potential student and parents.”
Applications are available to interested students in the Student Union, room 1521 and are due on April 11. Entries can be submitted to Simoneaux through email at [email protected] or the Campus Dining office. Those selected to serve as ambassadors for the upcoming school year will be announced on April 18, followed by a mandatory training day on May 16.
