Plan your wedding in a day

Busy brides planning for their big day will have the opportunity to meet with a variety of local vendors in one location to plan their wedding in one day.

The Plan Your Wedding in a Day Expo will be hosted in the new Student Union Ballroom on Sunday, March 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. Anyone planning an event is welcome to attend and bring members of their family who will be involved in the process.

“As a new event facility in the region, the Event and Conference Services Department needed a way to introduce the Student Union facility and staff to the community, one that would also help us build relationships between Southeastern and potential customers, as well as area event-related businesses,” said Cally Berner, director of Event and Conference Services.

In the past, couples have opted to hold their wedding receptions at Southeastern, often in Twelve Oaks or the Grand Ballroom. Members of the Event and Conference Services Department thought it would be beneficial to help take the stress out of planning the wedding so that couples will enjoy a less stressful engagement and wedding.

“When working with couples planning their wedding receptions, all too often the stress of the details involved take the fun out of the process,” said Berner. “Our goal with this event is to help brides make connections with local businesses who can help make planning a reception, or any event, as stress-free as possible.”

Event and Conference Services partnered with the Auxiliary Services team to put together the expo. Areas within Auxiliary Services including the Student Union, Catering, Marketing and the Document Source have been involved in the planning process and will be featured during the event.

“Specifically, Catering will showcase some of their most popular wedding reception appetizers for sampling, and the Document Source will feature the quality printing they can provide to families planning a wedding: everything from shower invitations, way-finding signage and reserved seating table signs,” said Berner.

This event will showcase many local vendors that can help couples check-off their wedding planning list. Among the vendors that will be featured at the expo are catering services, custom invitation suppliers, bakery options, bands, weight-loss services, florists, photographers, videographers and make-up artists.

“Providing these vendors with a central location to gather and meet potential customers will make it easy for the bride or groom to work out their wedding details locally,” said Berner.

The vendors will provide door prizes for the event. Anyone who attends has a chance to win a prize that could reduce their wedding-day costs.

“It’s a great opportunity to see the new Student Union space, win door prizes on wedding-related services and meet people whose goals are to help you plan a flawless wedding day you’ll remember for the rest of your life,” said Berner.

The Plan Your Wedding in a Day Expo costs $5 per person at the door. Registration is encouraged, but not required. For more information or to register, go to www.southeastern.edu/expo or call 985-549-2094.
