The Office of Career Services and the department of computer science and industrial technology are organizing “Tech-Connect” to offer students a variety of job opportunities and internships.

The event is scheduled to happen on March 21 on the first and second floor lobby of the Computer Science and Technology Building.

Assistant Director for the Office of Career Services Brittany Bacques explained that the event is divided into two parts as a career fair portion from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and an optional interviews portion from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

“The career fair portion of the day is just like the other job, career fairs offered throughout the year,” said Bacques. “Visiting employers have a table filled with information and promotional materials and are there to meet students who are interested in learning more about the company and types of jobs offered.”

Bacques explained what people can expect from the second half of the fair.

“The optional interview portion of the day is for employers who meet students at the career fair who they are interested in interviewing conveniently on campus that afternoon,” said Bacques.

According to Department Head of Computer Science and Industrial Technology Lu Yuan this is the fifth year of organizing “Tech-Connect.”

Approximately 35 companies will be participating in the fair this year.

“The main idea is to help college students, recent graduates, faculty to interact with local companies and also present a platform for local companies to talk to us,” said Yuan. “All of the participating companies are currently having positions, internships and entry-level, full-time positions. So, they can also take the opportunities to do the interviews on the same day.”

Yuan thinks the event is a win-win for both students and companies as a number of students have been hired by the companies in the past years.

Bacques encouraged interested students to have their resumes reviewed by career services.

“Interested students are encouraged to have their resumes reviewed by career services staff during the week of March 12 to 15 in the office, Student Union Annex 2102, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.,” said Bacques. “Career services will also be in the technology building on March 19 to review resumes just for ‘Tech-Connect’ preparations. Attendees should bring multiple copies of their resume to ‘Tech-Connect’ to provide to employers. Students are also encouraged to dress in business, professional attire as doing so makes a strong and positive first impression.”

Yuan encouraged all students to participate in the event.

“We as faculty members try our best to equip them and ready them for those opportunities,” said Yuan. “And now, the companies are coming here, so why not take the opportunity to talk to them?”
