    Lady Lions blow out Mobile

After a resounding loss to Ole Miss, the Lady Lions bounced back with a solid second half effort on Tuesday against the Mobile Lady Rams.
The Lady Lions dragged their feet through the early minutes of the first half, before finally pulling away after a layup by senior forward Brandi Simmons with 6:38 left to play in the half.
“I was a little disappointed in our slow start tonight because the one thing this team has shown every day in practice has been energy and hustle,” said head coach Lori Davis Jones. “That’s one of the things that we thought would make us a good, up-tempo pressing type team, feeding off of our defensive energy. We feel like we need to be able to press teams and keep our post out of the foul trouble.”
Simmons dominated on both ends of the court throughout the game by posting 24 points and 19 rebounds.
The Lady Lions ran away with the score in the second half, with the score at the final buzzer leaning in favor of Southeastern, 83-53.
Freshman guard Cortney Epting posted nine points in her home debut, while freshman forward Nanna Pool added seven rebounds to go along with her seven points.
Sophomores Elizabeth Styles and Symone Miller, both of whom saw significant playing time last year, notched four points apiece.
Still, Davis Jones noted several areas of improvement, despite the blowout victory.
“There’s a lot of things we have to work on,” said Davis Jones. “We can’t give up the offensive boards in the first half we gave up. I think we gave up six right off the bat. We got to be committed to blocking out, that was something I thought we had addressed after the Ole Miss game that we did not respond to well tonight.”
