    Lions roll over Tigers, 13-1

The Lions baseball team (23-11) brought pride to the plate in a 13-1 win against the Jackson State University Tigers (18-6).
The Lions played at Pat Kenelly Diamond on Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. During this game, Lions debuted freshman pitcher Gabe Von Rosenberg, who showed potential at the mound, as the Tigers were only able to get 4 hits in this matchup.
The Lions started the game strong, leading 7-1 in the fifth inning, with the Tigers only run occurring in the second.
Despite the pressure of his debut on the mound, Von Rosenberg was pleased with his performance in this game.
“I had the jitters at first,” said Von Rosenberg, “but once I got the hang of it, it was easy. It’s something I’ve been doing my whole life. “
The Lions were behind in the second by one run until Aaron Haag hit his second home run of the season, setting the Lions forward with three runs. Senior Alex Marse hit another home run in the sixth inning. This was his first career home run at Southeastern.
Marse was pleased with the team’s performance and is hopeful for the rest of the season.
“We’ve had our ups and downs,” said Marse, “but after tonight’s game, I feel like we’re going on the right path, and hopefully that ends with a championship.”
Von Rosenberg remains confident for the rest of the season, as he hopes to continue his success on the mound.
“I’m looking forward to getting some more innings in. Of course that’s up to the coaches, but I enjoyed myself, and we’re on a roll right now,” said Von Rosenberg. “I feel like we’re about to get something done.”
Head coach Jay Artigues shared this optimism, as he looks forward to the progress of the team.
“We’re very excited about it, we passed the half way point, with 23 wins already, 23-11 and still in first place,” said Artigues. “So we like where we’re standing, we want to see these guys improving every day so we can play our best baseball at the end of the season.”
Lions scored 18 hits in the game, ending strong with two runs in the eighth.
After playing Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Okla., the Lions will host the New Orleans Privateers today at 6 p.m.
