ST. LOUIS – Former Southeastern Louisiana University football letterwinner Kevin Hughes was signed to the St. Louis Rams active roster after spending the first 10 weeks of the season on the team’s practice squad.
Hughes, a New Orleans native who played at Karr High School before concluding his prep career at Amite after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, signed with the Rams as a free agent in July and played in all four exhibition games before being placed on the team’s practice squad.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pounder was added to the active roster on Nov. 19 and has played in the Rams last two games as the backup at both tackle positions.
A four-year letterwinner for the Lions from 2007-10, Hughes started 35 consecutive games including 22 at left tackle. Hughes earned second-team All-Southland Conference and All-Louisiana honors in 2010 after grading at 80 percent or better in nine of 11 games for Southeastern. He had 47 knockdowns while allowing two sacks in 434 passing attempts on the season.
