Roosevelt “Ro” Johnson put up 28 points in a down-to-the-wire win against the University of Central-Arkansas Bears, but it was the last two Johnson scored that will be remembered. With 1.9 seconds left in the second half, Johnson took the inbounds off a screen and hit a fade-away floater in the lane to end the game with Southeastern on the right side of the score, 70-69.
It was the “Ro” Johnson show all night long, as the senior forward pulled down 14 rebounds, solidifying his place as a dominant force on both sides of the court.
“We had on the board, ‘make plays, make plays, make plays,’ and that’s about as big as it gets,” head coach Jim Yarbrough told ESPN 3 after the game.
Johnson started off strong, draining his first two three pointers of the season and tying his career high with 28 points.
“The first thing I told the coaches was ‘it happened a little too easily.’ We were afraid he would think he could do that all game,” said Yarbrough in the interview.
The Lions have won five of their last seven games, and are 6-3 in conference. They return home on Valentine’s Day against Northwestern State, a team they lost to 103-68 on Jan. 19.
