Lady Lions pleased with new recruits

The Lady Lions softball team is growing and moving forward. Head Coach Pete Langlois, who is in his 18th season coaching at Southeastern, is ready and excited for the 2014 season after adding five new recruits during the 2015 early signing period.
“We’ve been very pleased with the last few recruiting classes, and we’ve continued to improve our depth and talent level,” said Langlois in an interview with Lionsports.net.
Last season the Lady Lions finished 32-22 overall and 13-13 in Southland Conference play, making it to the SLC Tournament for the first time since 2008.
Langlois believes with the new recruits the team can continue its growth and stay strong in the conference. He said to Lionsports.net that the new additions will help to ground the program and move it toward a positive future.
“We believe the five players we’re bringing in can all fill important roles and be key assets in the future of our program,” Langlois said.
The new recruits are pitcher Nicole Ayala from Torrance, Calif., middle infielder Sydney Booker from Madison, Ala., utility player Grace DeLee from Walker, La., outfielder Peyton Stokes-Sutton from Reserve, La. and infielder Brittney Wingate from League City, Texas.
Langlois said last season their success was accredited to the speed in their lineup; this season will be no different. Players will be able to feed off of each other’s energy and speed to bring the Lady Lions closer to another Southland Conference Tournament.
“One of the reasons we were successful last season is the speed we had at the top of our lineup and the ability we had to set up our sluggers in the middle of the lineup,” Langlois said.
The season begins on Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. as the Lady Lions play Texas Tech at North Oak Park. This will be the first game of the 2014 Lion Classic.
