This weekend was bittersweet for the Lady Lions soccer team, who achieved victory over Northwestern State University, but fell to Stephen F. Austin.
The Lady Lions lost 0-2 against Stephen F. Austin on Friday, Oct. 18 and achieved a 1-0 overtime victory over NSU on Sunday, Oct. 20.
“Making the winning goal is nice, but it is something we had worked on all week for in practice,” said freshman forward Brianna Singh.
The Lady Lions showed grit after a tough loss to SFA in the previous match to get the overtime win against NSU.
“We showed great resilience to come back after a tough lose,” said head coach Blake Hornbuckle. “We put in an overall strong effort today and to find the net. Today we dug in deep and found the extra effort to put us through.”
The Lady Lions had a great comeback with Sunday’s game after losing their last game to SFA. It was a constant battle between the two teams to get a goal. The Demons put up a great fight against the Lady Lions, and the end result was 10 minutes of overtime play.
“This game today, we knew the importance of it after losing on Friday,” said Singh. “It was going to be important to win, so we all had to give our full efforts.”
Though the Lady Lions faced some obstacles on the field, the game turned in their favor.
“We created opportunities from the opening kickoff,” said Hornbuckle. “We had trouble finding the net today, but finally in over time we got the break through to win the game.”
The Lady Lions will play against Sam Houston State on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. in Huntsville, Texas. The Lady Lions will return home to play against Houston Baptist on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. in the Soccer Complex.
