    Athlete of the Week

    Ryan Adams

Football player Ryan Adams has been named Athlete of the Week. Originally from Ohio, Adams came to Louisiana and has been a kicker for Southeastern’s team since 2011. This past week, Adams broke a school record when he scored a 55 yard field goal when they played against Northwestern State.

The Lion’s Roar: You have been named the College Football Performance Awards FCS National Kicker of the Week, as well as the Special Teams Player of the Week by the Southland conference and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. How does that make you feel?

Ryan Adams: It’s huge; you dream about stuff like this all the time, and once you get the opportunity to, you just have to do it. Luckily, we needed field goals this past week to win and that’s what happened.

TLR: What did your parents say when you told them you were awarded these titles?

RA: Actually, they drove down from Ohio and they got to watch from the stands. They were ecstatic and didn’t know what to say. It was incredible.

TLR: What has been your most memorable play in your college career?

RA: It’s got to be the 55. It’s not every day that you break a school record.

TLR: Did Seth Sebastian teach you anything during your time together on the team?

RA: Absolutely. Seth was very consistent last year and consistency is a big thing I’m trying to focus on this year. Just doing the same thing over and over again. He taught me a lot; I was with him for three years.

TLR: What do you plan on doing with your major in graphic design after you graduate?

RA: I would love to work for Nike or Adidas. Something like that would be really cool.

TLR: Growing up, did you always want to play football?

RA: Yes, absolutely. Just from when I was little, one day we needed a punter and I was just like, ‘Hey, I’ll do it.’ And then I was doing well at it and I thought maybe I had a chance at college ball and went from there.

TLR: You’re from Ohio. Was it hard coming to Louisiana?

RA: Not really. I hate the cold weather so coming down here in the winter time when its 70 degrees and sunny [is nice.] I can’t complain at all.

TLR: What is your favorite Cajun meal?

RA: That’s tough. I’d have to go with crawfish. I’m a big fan of crawfish, but gumbo would be a close second.

TLR: How do you like to spend your time off the field?

RA: I’d say video games for sure. Talking with family because I’m so far away I don’t get to see my brother and family a lot so when they come down I like to spend a lot of time with them.

TLR: You achieved a 55-yard field goal-the longest in school history. What are your new goals now?

RA: Break that record. I have to, and again just being consistent.

TLR: Bengals or Browns fan? Or have you switched to the Saints?

RA: That’s tough, when I first moved down here I did try to pull for the Saints, but I am still a Bengals fan. However, since Johnny Manziel came to the Browns, I’ve started pulling for them.
