The Lady Lions continue their losing streak with their last two losses against Northwestern State University and University of Central Arkansas.

The Lady Lions versus Northwestern game started off in favor of the Lions, who had a lead of 17 points in the first half of the game, but fell in the second half, with a final score of 60-71.

Some of the top players in the Northwestern game were senior forward Annessa De La Cruz, junior forward Nanna Pool, freshman guard Taylin Underwood, senior guard Elizabeth Styles and senior guard Jameika Hoskins. De La Cruz scored five for seven three-pointers, finishing with a season-high of 16 points and also had seven total rebounds and two steals.

Pool scored 14 points and made six total rebounds. Underwood scored 14 points as well with three three-pointers and three total rebounds. Styles made two total rebounds and eight assists. Hoskins scored eight points and made eight total rebounds, two turnovers and two steals.

In the first few minutes of the game, the Lions were down, but nearing 16 minutes, Hoskins made the first two pointer that started the team’s lead. Their lead continued throughout the first half with the score being 38-28 at the break, until Northwestern took the lead at 11:37, changing the score to 43-42.

The Lady Demons continued to lead throughout the second half and the Lady Lions were never able to recover, with the final score finishing at 60-71.

After the Northwestern game, the Lady Lions played in Conway, Arkansas against Central Arkansas on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Even with Pool posting her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and making 12 total rebounds, and Peaches Anderson scoring 14 points in the game versus the Sugar Bears, it was not enough for the Lady Lions (7-20, 3-13 Southland) to make it to victory.

The score remained close throughout the entire first half, but the Lady Lions never took the lead, with the score being 27-38 at the break. In the second half, the Lady Lions still never made a close impact on the Sugar Bears, finishing the game with a score of 57-73.

Losing these games means that in order for the Lady Lions to be in the Southland Conference Tournament, it is up to them to win their two final games against University of New Orleans and Nicholls State University and to Sam Houston State and Houston Baptist to lose the rest of their games for the season.

The Lady Lions will face UNO next Thursday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m. in New Orleans.

Their last game of the regular season will be against Nicholls on Saturday, March 7 at 4:30 p.m. in the University Center.
