    Lucia Bustamante

Lucia Bustamante is a freshman tennis player and marketing major from Guayaquil, Ecuador. She is undefeated in singles matches this season and ranked number four for the Lady Lions.

The Lion’s Roar: As a freshman, how do you like your first year in college so far?

Lucia Bustamante: It’s been really good so far. I’m grateful to have a close relationship with my teammates.

TLR: How are you adjusting to living in Louisiana?

LB: Louisiana is a lot different from Ecuador. One of the things I’m trying to adapt to is the weather.

TLR: What are some of your favorite things about the United States?

LB: What I really like about United States is the hospitality and that the people are kind.

TLR: What is your favorite part about playing tennis?

LB: My favorite part of playing tennis is being part of a team and having the opportunity to represent Southeastern.

TLR: What first interested you in playing tennis?

LB: What motivated me to play tennis was watching my big brother playing when I was little, and how he motivated me to play with him.

TLR: Do you draw lessons after every game?

LB: After every match I learn something new, what I did right and what I did wrong. I try to keep them in my mind so I can work on what I did wrong and try to be better.

TLR: Do you have any short or long-term goals as an athlete?

LB: My main goal as an athlete was to travel and play college tennis. I’m glad it is Southeastern, so I’m living my dream.

TLR: Do you have any academic goals?

LB: My academic goal is to graduate from college and have a MBA.

TLR: Is it a challenge to balance school and sports?

LB: It’s hard to dedicate time to both tennis and school. I’m trying to do my best and I think it’s been pretty good so far.

TLR: Do you get stressed easily, and if so, how do you deal with stress?

LB: I get stressed very easily in school, but a little bit of chocolate and music solves everything.

TLR: Are you interested in any other sports?

LB: I like watching most sports such as soccer, baseball and football but I’m only focusing on tennis.

TLR: What are you looking to accomplish during your time at Southeastern?

LB: During my time at Southeastern, I want to win the Southland Conference with my team.

TLR: What do you like to do in your free time?

LB: In my free time, I mostly watch TV series, hang out with my teammates and sleep.
