Students prepare to Jam the Jungle in the UC

The start of the spring semester marks one of the most important events for the men’s basketball team’s season. Jam the Jungle, the annual get-together of students and fans presents a great opportunity for the team to get an extra boost going into the season.

This year, the event takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at the game against Northwestern State University.

“Jam the Jungle is an event that has gone on for several years now,” said Lindsey Cramer, Coordinator of Student Marketing and Promotions. “It’s always been known as the biggest student promotion for our men’s basketball season. The purpose behind this promotion is to give the students an incentive to get out and go to the basketball game especially if they haven’t been able to go to one yet this season.”

The event wants to highlight the importance of having a home court advantage and the influence the fans have on their home team.

“It’s important for our students to come to promotional events like this and stay for the duration of the event to keep the atmosphere loud and intimidating for the opponent,” said Cramer. “It’s important to take advantage of playing at home, and I think at events like this, we could really make something happen.”

During the event, the students are treated with various perks and prizes.

“This year we are giving out a promotional item and food to the first 300 students through the gates,” said Cramer. “Also, if you’re a student, you may sign-up at the marketing and promotions table in the concourse for a chance to play some of our fun in-game promotions. We’ll be giving out some awesome Southeastern swag and you may even win some cash upon signing up and participating.”

Cramer believes that this year’s event will feature some fresh additions but will also stick to the traditions with some aspects of it.

“This event is timeless,” said Cramer. “We love to keep events like this consistent so students and fans know exactly what to expect.  However, we keep the ideas and games fresh from year to year. We update the prizes and make the in-game promotions more exciting and innovative.”

Information and updates regarding the event can be obtained via social media on Twitter @sluathmarketing or on Instagram @southeastern_athletics. Apart from that, the Marketing and promotions team will also be in the Student Union promoting the event and will also use other outlets like print and electronic media.
