The Southeastern Visual Art Society (VAS) held on Art Night from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.on Thursday, April 11 at Clark Hall.
According to the Southeastern organizations page, VAS isa student organization, funded by the student activities fee and serves as a volunteer advocacy group for Visual Arts students, providing a forum for students to investigate and discuss contemporary art issues.
Each semester, the VAS puts together Art Night in an attempt to raise interest in the visual arts department.
“We hold this event to get people involved in the art community,” said painting major KaitlynMcKey. “This is a really good way to combine all aspects of art and get the chance to hang out for a night.”
Everyone who came out was able to participate in various team themed events which encouraged the making of teams on the spot and was a great way to get everyone to mix around with all of the people and get to know them.
Students gathered in the courtyard in between East Stadium and Clark Hall waiting for the start of the night’s events.
The teams went against each other in an attempt to make a painting while wearing a pair of drunken goggles.
The teams were also given the opportunity to create their own mugs in the ceramics lab and to take awkward family photos.
All the activities at art night gave students the chance to earn points for their teams and the more that the team members did, the more points they could receive.
The teams could earn up to four points in each activity except for the art history game where the teams could play as many times as they wanted, and their score ranged from one to six points depending on how long it took to be answered.
Another activity that attracted attention was the Stop Motion booth.
Stop Motion was a booth where the students and groups used cameras to take pictures of various items to tell a story.
All stop motion videos will later be posted to YouTube for everyone to view.
“So far, my favorite part of the night is printmaking. I enjoyed seeing how they made their shirts and the different shirt designs,” said sophomore animations major Dylan Cruz.
Food was also provided at the event including burgers, chicken sandwiches, chips and drinks which, were all available free of charge.
Anyone that wants to attend the next art night should be on the lookout for the various flyers around campus next semester to find out when it will be.
