ULS President Woodley to speak at Commencement

Commencement honors the years of hard work and time spent earning a degree. The ceremony lasts only a brief moment in time, but this semester over 1,250 students will walk across the stage. It’s the end of a chapter in their lives, but graduates will take away fond memories and walk towards a bright future.
The commencement ceremony for fall 2013 graduates will take place in the University Center on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m.
This semester the guest speaker is current University of Louisiana System President Sandra K. Woodley.
Woodley became the eighth president of the ULS in January 2013. The UL System is the largest system in the state, and serves approximately 90,000 students from nine universities.
She brought with her a plethora of strategic planning and budgeting experience that stemmed from her past positions with university systems in Texas, Arizona, Kentucky and Alabama.
“Dr. Woodley has really hit the ground running as leader of the UL System, and the initiatives she is spearheading have the potential to create a tremendous positive impact for students,” said Southeastern President John L. Crain. “I know our graduates will be inspired, not just by her vision for the schools in our system, but by her own personal story of hard work and achievement.”
Woodley, a native of Alabama, began her college career as a non-traditional student, briefly attending a community college before earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Auburn University. She went on to earn her doctorate in business administration and management from Nova Southeastern University.
“I am honored to be included on this important day at Southeastern Louisiana University,” said Woodley. “I plan to share my own personal story and will also share a few hard lessons learned along the way.”
