The services of the University Counseling Center (UCC) have moved to North Oak Street. With the move, the center gave students the opportunity to meet the counselors, learn about the services offered and explore the new facilities through a Meet and Greet. Meet and Greet is a casual open house event that will take place on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. It will be held in the new building located directly across the street from Southeastern Hall at 912 North Oak Street. “It is an opportunity for members of the Southeastern family to see the new counseling center and to meet the counselors,” said Barbara Hebert, University Counseling Center Director. “We hope that we are more visible to students so that they will remember that we are available for them if they need us. We don’t anticipate any change in services.” The UCC provides students with access to free mental health counseling through individual counseling, group counseling, couples counseling, family counseling as well as workshops and consultation. With a goal to facilitate self-understanding and empowerment for all clients, the UCC strives to assist clients in identifying and resolving challenges that affect their lives. Through counseling, clients have the support of a counselor in addition to freedom and the opportunity to determine how they wish to resolve the challenges in which they face. While the move is temporary, the services offered will continue to be available to students at the new location until the completion of the newly renovated Student Union. “Counseling is helpful to almost everyone at some point in their lives,” added Hebert. “We believe that counseling can help individuals learn about themselves, their environment and their methods of handling roles and relationships.” The University Counseling Center is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Fridays.
