The Ghost Light will be finishing off the semester with the philosophical but creative style of Jodi James & Co. as well as Denton Hatcher and the Soapbox Blues.

The Ghost Light is a concert venue at the Columbia Theatre featuring rising local and national music artists. The concert will be on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m., but doors will be open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8.

“You can tell when an artist believes in what they are doing,” said David Avelar II, operations and production technical assistant, “it’s like a window into their world, like any good art, it draws you in. Jodi’s music does that. It’s really great. It’s an experience. The show on the 20th is going to be a night of great music from two great songwriters/artists. I wouldn’t miss it, and I’m glad we’re able to have this show at The Ghost Light.”

James is an Americana/folk singer and songwriter from Gonzales, La. She gathers inspiration for her music from her rural upbringing in the sugar cane fields of Southern Louisiana. She recorded her first album, “This Fire,” in September 2009 while she was staying in New York City, N.Y.

Her latest works, including albums “Far Between and Fleeting” and “This Fire,” can be found on iTunes.

The concert will be a return visit for James, since she performed solo at the venue in January. According to Avelar, The Ghost Light staff has been trying to bring her back with her band.

Denton Hatcher and The Soapbox Blues, a blues/American artist from Baton Rouge, will be opening for James that night. Hatcher first played at the venue in March.

Members of Hatcher’s band include Denton Hatcher, Scott Sibley,Thomas Johnson, Cody Ruth, Becca Babin and Paul Buller.

“If you want to experience great original music with great people in an atmosphere that’s all about the music, The Ghost Light is your venue,” said Avelar. “If you want to support up-and-coming artists, The Ghost Light is your venue. It’s [for] all ages. Come out on the twentieth; bring your friends, a few drinks and enjoy a great show featuring two amazing artists and support local original music.”
