Colleges Against Cancer hosts “Gleaux Run”

Colleges Against Cancer will be hosting a Gleaux Run in order to bring light to the darkness felt by cancer victims everywhere.

The Gleaux Run will be held in Friendship Circle at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28. Participants of the Gleaux Run may choose to walk the 5k instead. A mile-long Family Fun Run will begin at 7:10 p.m.

“Our theme ‘Gleaux Run for the Cure’ encourages participants to be as creative as they want by incorporating lights and other glow objects to their running gear,” said Ashlie Ming, Relay For Life specialist. “So as the night falls, attention will be on all the racers who are glowing in honor of the fight against cancer. Costumes, glow sticks and neon gear are encouraged. We want everyone who attends to have a great time in a family-friendly atmosphere while raising funds to finish the fight against cancer.”

The Gleaux Run is part of Relay For Life’s mission to fund the American Cancer Society’s effort to provide resources for cancer victims and support cancer research.

“Dollars raised help the American Cancer Society save lives by supporting education and prevention efforts, funding groundbreaking cancer research and providing free information and services for people with cancer who need them,” said Ming. “Relay participants raise nearly $400 million dollars for the American Cancer Society each year – one dollar at a time.”

Each participant will help to fight the battle against cancer. After the Gleaux Run, a memorial ceremony will be held to honor those who have lost their lives to cancer.

“There will be a luminaria ceremony after you cross the finish line so we can remember people we have lost to cancer, honor the people who have fought cancer in the past and support those whose fight continues,” said Ming. “You can purchase luminaria bags for $10 from any member of Southeastern’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer or at Friendship Circle the day of the event. Our booth will be set up from 11 a.m. until the race begins. With your help, we aren’t just fighting one type of cancer – we’re fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community.”

Pre-registration fees are $25, and those who register at the event must pay $30. The fee is $15 for children ages 6-11, and there is no charge for children under the age of six. A team of six people can register for $125. Those who sign up before March 14 will receive a neon t-shirt.
