The fall semester is always an exciting time: freshmen and transfers take their first steps on campus, returning students reunite with friends and hundreds of events take place over the course of five months. From performances to football games, there should be something for everyone in the Hammond area, and I hope you will read the university’s newspaper, The Lion’s Roar, each week to stay in the know and find out where you fit in on campus.
The Office of Student Publications consists of student workers, including myself, who produce the newspaper once a week during regular semesters and monthly over the summer. Student Publications also produces the official Southeastern yearbook, Le Souvenir, which comes out around Homecoming Week each October.
Flip through the pages of this special move-in issue to learn about fall sports, arts and entertainment, a royal alumna and an inspiring incoming freshman. These pages contain information, including advice for freshmen and what everyone needs to know about the university’s new tobacco-free policy.
Each week we aim to fill The Lion’s Roar newspaper with vital campus and local news, features on interesting people, important issues, previews of exciting events and recaps of athletic competitions. If you attend any events on campus, it’s possible a quote or your picture will make it in the paper.
Physical copies of the newspaper can be found in bins across campus, and all content is published online at www.lionsroarnews.com. For photo albums and links to popular stories, like The Lion’s Roar on Facebook and follow us @lionsroarnews on Twitter and Instagram.
Any university-recognized organization that would like an announcement printed in the newspaper may submit their Organizational News through the tab on The Lion’s Roar Facebook page by 10 a.m. on the Friday before each publication.
I would also like to encourage everyone to write a Letter to the Editor if they have a complaint or a comment on a university matter. Letters can be submitted either through the Facebook page or by emailing [email protected].
I hope that all new and returning students, faculty and staff have a great start to the semester and experience all Southeastern has to offer.
