Who will be crowned Miss Southeastern 2015?

Contestants begin their journey for the prospect of competing in Miss Louisiana at the Miss Southeastern pageant on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Pottle.

“The theme this year is ‘A Red Carpet Affair,’” said Todd McElroy, coordinator of Campus Activity Board. “We are putting a little bit extra into the production this year to try to really put on a good show. If you want to know more, you will have to come to the show and see for yourself.”

Nancy Peck, Hailee Weber, Gabrielle Reynolds, Emily Randon, Aurora Olvera, Scarlett Blades, Dominique Brogle and Jessica Thorn will be battling it out for the title of Miss Southeastern. They will compete in five categories: interview, talent, evening gown, on stage question and fitness. Judges will also be looking at the contestants as a whole in addition to these categories because Miss Southeastern is an individual who excels in all areas, not just one.

Peck, a sophomore communication major, is excited about the upcoming pageant and all the opportunities it has to offer for her platform.

“I decided to compete for Miss Southeastern because I would love the opportunity to be a representative for this university I love so much,” said Peck. “Not only do I bleed green and gold, but this would be a wonderful way to promote my personal platform of volunteerism and also to be an ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. All-in-all, it would be an incredible blessing to be Miss Southeastern and the face of Hammond, America.”

The winner will recieve a year’s tuition and the honor of representing Southeastern. She will also go on to compete in the Miss Louisiana competition. First, second and third runner-ups will get a semester’s tuition. Miss Southeastern will have a chance to represent Southeastern as a spokesperson and promote their platform for the school and the state.

“If I won the title, I would travel the state and spread the word about the many things our university is doing, and I would work to raise awareness of my platform, Ducks Unlimited,” said Brogle, junior communication major.

Being Miss Southeastern will also give the winner a chance to attend events such as Chef’s Evening and to participate in the Homecoming parade. It gives the title-winner a whole new experience.

“I hope the audience will see all the exceptional young women that attend Southeastern,” said McElroy. “They are a very talented group, and it should be a very entertaining evening.”
