The Campus Activities Board hosted Laser Tag inside the Student Union Ballroom.
On Mar. 16, CAB rented laser tag equipment, guns and inflatable covers to set up around the ballroom in a makeshift arena.
Brennan Sarah, a freshman business administration major planned out the event and talked a little bit on why he chose to put on laser tag in particular.
“We did it last semester, and it had a great turnout,” said Sarah. “I wasn’t in charge of it last semester. A buddy of mine was, but he passed it on to me after he graduated. I really like doing this event. It’s a great time for students to come out, find their friends, make a team and just get to compete against each other. It’s a good time to come enjoy some music and some fancy lights and to just have fun.”
Sarah also shared some of why laser tag is a fun event for the students.
“I love doing what I do because it’s just a simple fact of the matter because we give them a fun time,” said Sarah. “Let them have some fun. It breaks them off fun from that work experience and work environment, and that’s really it.”
CAB decided on the ballroom to add a bigger venue for the event as opposed to other locations around campus.
“We had a bigger crowd than what we thought, and we said, ‘Hey, let’s step it up a notch,’ so we decided to switch it up a little bit to the ballroom,” said Sarah. “We called up Bayou Games and that’s how we got laser tag ready to roll. The lights and everything are all our own, I actually set those up myself.”
McKenzie Tolson, a junior marketing major and fellow CAB member to Sarah also added to how she thought the event of laser tag not only entertained the students, but was a benefit to them as well.
“I wasn’t here for the first time we did it,” said Tolson. “So, I didn’t know how many people would actually enjoy it, but I think we had a good group of people come out already. It’s something different we can do, and it’s a good time because during midterms, they usually run around really stressed.”
CAB always makes an effort to host events that are fun for the students as well as interactive to give them a chance to all mingle and get to know each other. Joshua Ansardi, a senior finance major and CAB member felt that this event wasn’t too different than the others they host but adds a bit of competition and a new feel to the events.
“I wouldn’t say it’s too different because all the events we do we try to make fun interactive for all the students,” said Ansardi. “One thing I did notice about the laser tag was throughout the whole time all the students were happy and just having a great time. I think laser tag sort of brings out more of the competitive nature. So, it kind of makes it that much more exciting to do, and it really was a fun event to put on. You really get to see the competitive nature among the students, and it’s really in nature with what we try to do which is that interaction among the student body.”
