About Us

Welcome!

The Lion’s Roar provides a voice for the student body and the Southeastern Louisiana University community. The Lion’s Roar is the journal of record and the repository of our memories for the campus community. As such, the talented staff of The Lion’s Roar provides both individuals and groups at the University a vehicle to publicize activities and events of relevance to the University community.

The Lion’s Roar provides the community with an ongoing forum for the expression of ideas and opinions in a free and open environment and the exchange and dissemination of information. The Lion’s Roar, associated websites, and digital versions are designated public forums. Student editors have the authority to make all content decisions without censorship or advance approval. As a student-run publication, staff members also benefit from the opportunity to learn and improve writing, reporting, editing, photography, layout and graphic design skills.

The Lion’s Roar newsletter is produced weekly and distributed weekly on Tuesdays during regular semesters and monthly during the summer semester. All content is planned, written, designed, and produced by the students of Southeastern Louisiana University working within the Office of Student Publications, a part of the Division for Student Affairs. The Lion’s Roar has been in continuous production since 1937.

Staff members are students working for the Office of Student Publications with either The Lion’s Roar, Le Souvenir, or the department itself. Staff positions are paid student worker jobs. While submissions and other student contributions are welcome, most persons working with The Lion’s Roar have a staff position such as Editor, Staff Reporter, Designer, etc.

University-recognized student organizations, Greek letter fraternities and sororities, clubs, associations, academic and support departments, or any campus-recognized groups are encouraged to contact the staff of The Lion’s Roar if they desire coverage of events or activities. In addition, any campus-recognized group or department may submit an article to be included on The Lion’s Roar website by completing the Organizational News Form. Staff members strive to include as much content as they can from week to week, but self-identification by individuals or groups is the best way to ensure coverage.

Additionally, the staff attempts to provide individual students or community members ample opportunity to have their opinion and viewpoint included in the paper by submitting comments, requests, Organizational News, and Letters to the Editor for publication.
