After a week-long recruitment process, the Southeastern Louisiana University Collegiate Panhellenic Council gathered in the University Center to welcome their new members into their respective sisterhoods.
“Bid Day is when potential new members receive their invitations from their new chapter,” said Kelci Michelli, Vice President of Recruitment. “After accepting their invitation, they get to run home to their sorority. All the active members of the Panhellenic sororities and all the women that have just gone through recruitment participate in Bid Day.”
On Saturday, Aug. 12 at noon, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Phi Mu, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Theta Phi Alpha welcomed their new sisters.
“The purpose is for all of the new members to run to their new home,” said Michelli. “They get to meet all of the members of their new organization. This event also shows unity within the Panhellenic community because all of the chapters get together to welcome the new members.
It is important because after a week-long recruitment process, the potential new members finally receive a bid from a chapter that will be their home for the rest of their college career.”
Claire Perilloux, a freshman kinesiology major will be joining Alpha Omicron Pi.
“Recruitment week was a lot of emotions,” said Perilloux. “It was really exciting. It was a really tough decision. I was actually torn between two, but I knew it was home when I walked in.”
Perilloux was emotional when she received her bids.
“My favorite part was talking to all the girls,” said Perilloux. “They gave me a lot of confidence. It was just a lot of fun. It felt like a rush of emotions. It was exciting, a lot of tears, but I know I’ve found my sisters. I know I’ve found my home.”
Ashlyn Hall, a freshman English education major is joining Alpha Sigma Tau.
“It was so fun,” said Hall. “It was probably one of the best weeks of my life. It was like a never-ending summer camp. It’s probably one of the best feelings ever. This is where I wanted to be, and I’m home now. I’m so happy.”
