For Homecoming Week, the “Can You Build It?” Homecoming Food Drive had students build structures to fit their group’s fairytale.

    The evnt happened Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sigma Sigma Sigma had difficulties deciding on a structure.

“It had to be with the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ theme, and we tried a rose but that didn’t go so well,” said member Claire Solar, a freshman middle school education major. “So, a castle just kind of came out of everything.”

Other groups used specific color schemes to help tell their fairytale stories they were given.

“Tuna is one of the most needed items at the SLU Food Pantry,” said Taylor Mangus, a senior nursing major and member of Phi Mu. “So, Phi Mu, Pike and Sigma Tau Gamma present the kings trident from ‘The Little Mermaid’ made up of tuna cans and macaroni boxes with green bean cans surrounding it to represent seaweed.”

Baptist Collegiate Ministry used their can goods to showcase their organization while also staying true to their fairytale.

“We are building a tower because our theme was ‘Rapunzel,’ and basically the whole movie is based around her tower,” said Hannah Allen, a junior nursing major and member of BCM. “So the front has BCM spelled out with the yellow cans.”
