The Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host their first Chili Cook Off competition to flow into Friday Night Live.
The Chili Cook Off will be a competition between student organizations that register and submit a dish of chili for judging. The cook off is scheduled to take place on Friday, Oct. 12 in the Student Union Park.
“Our motivation behind it is to get all clubs and organizations to compete in an equal footing no matter their size,” said Todd McElroy, CAB director. “Friday Night Live starts at 7 o’clock, so it will be a good flow into it.”
Any student organization is eligible to participate. An email was sent out to all student organization presidents announcing the event. Students may register in the CAB office, which is located in Room 201 of the Student Union.
The competition is meant to be a creative resource that will provide organizations with an opportunity to earn money for their organization through healthy competition and an evening of food and fun. There will be no restrictions based on the size of the organization.
The winning recipe will be awarded $200 for use toward the registered student organization. There will also be cash prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place dishes. The 2nd place participant will be awarded $75 and the 3rd place winner will receive a $25 award. Prize money must be used to benefit the organization and may not be used for personal use by a student or the preparer of the dish.
“We will make sure the money goes to the organization and is used in a proper manor,” explained McElroy.
The event will at start at 5 p.m. and judging will follow at 7 p.m. A panel of judges selected by the CAB will judge submitted dishes based on specific criteria. The dishes will be numbered to ensure anonymity of the group or person associated with it.
“It’s an event to build campus community,” added McElroy. “This is our first year of it and we’re hoping for a good turn out.”
