Career Services held a Career Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Pennington Activity Center.
The Career Fair was held so that Southeastern alumni and students, such as industrial technology major Tuan Tran, would have the chance to explore the Career Fair and find a potential employer looking for those interested in both part-time or full-time employment.
“I went to the Career Fair to find a decent job,” said Tran. “I would prefer to find something that is in my major, but I need something right now.”
The first step that Tran, along with other students and alumni took was to get their nametag when they entered the Pennington Center.
After students were given their nametags, they received a list of employers in alphabetical order. They could use the list to quickly navigate through the Career Fair setup and search for employers who were looking for people in their majors.
While places such as Walgreens were looking for people who were able to multi-task around their stores, other employers, such as the U.S. Marshalls, were looking for people that come from a military family or have been in the armed forces.
Going to the Career Fair is a good way for students to get their foot in the door, allowing them to network with hiring businesses even before graduation.
“I think that I want to work with Aramark,” said Tran. “They have locations on campus and I think that I have a good chance of getting a job.”
Close to the end of the Career Fair, when the employers started packing and students were starting to leave, students and employers each had separate raffles for door prizes for attending.
The students that won would be contacted if their names were called and they were not there.
