University Housing, Campus Dining and ARAMARK will be hosting Backyard Bash on Wednesday, March 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. outside of Cayman Cafe. Backyard Bash is an annual event, which takes place in the spring semester during the preparation for the coming new school year and has taken place every year since 2009.
“Backyard Bash is our Re-application Celebration. This event helps us to inform our students about the re-application process and encourage them to re-apply as soon as possible,” said Amanda Robbins, area coordinator for University Housing. “This event helps us to spread the word about re-applying before May 18.”
The event will offer students “great food, fun music and games; activities include a mechanical bull, inflatable obstacle course, dance competition, and more” according to Robbins.
The mechanical bull centers on their theme for Backyard Bash this year, “Got Housing,” with a spinoff of the well known California Milk Processor Board advertisement of “Got Milk.”
Backyard Bash is hosted by University Housing and all students are invited.
“However students must use one meal plan meal to participate or pay the cost of a meal ($6.95 + tax) to participate as Cayman will close its inside food service for the event,” said Robbins. “Food will only be served outside during the event.”
The event will last from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and students are allowed to come and go as they please.
The purpose for Backyard Bash is to inform students about the re-application process into campus housing for returning and new residents for the upcoming school year that starts in August.
“Returning Housing residents must re-apply to live on campus by May 18 to have priority over new residents. Returning students who re-apply after May 18 will be assigned based on their priority date on a first come, first served basis,” said Robbins. “New students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; University Housing has filled quickly for the past three years and maintained a waiting list after the beginning of classes.”
To re-apply for University Housing, students should log-on to their Leonet account and follow the steps under the “Online Housing Application” tab. The second step is to pay the application fee and pre-payment for their chosen housing option, before their application is even considered for completion.
