The Rotary Club of Hammond’s yearly 10k race will be held on St. Patrick’s Day. The appropriately named Shamrock Run will begin and end in Southeastern’s Friendship Circle and will follow a route around the campus.
The race will be held at 8 a.m. on March 17.
According to www.hammondrotary10k.com, “The Hammond Rotary 10k will offer runners the first ever opportunity to run a Crescent City Classic qualifying course in Hammond, La.,” and 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to local charities.
Ron Taylor, president of the Hammond Rotary Club, stated that profits from the Shamrock Run will go to benefit the community.
“The purpose of the run is to raise money for local charities and organizations that have a positive impact on our community. We do not have a specific charity we are designating money to, and we accept grant proposals from various organizations and donate based on their needs.”
The success of last year’s race enabled the club to donate to 11 various organizations.
“The proceeds from last year’s race benefited CASA, TARC, OPTIONS, The Council on Aging, Crime Stoppers, Shiloh Homemakers, Special Olympics, Tani Food Pantry, Uniforms for Tots, KSLU and the Hammond High Torbotics team.”
After the race, a party will be held at Friendship Circle. Food and drinks will be supplied by Raising Canes, VooDoo BBQ, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, Aquiana, Miller and Coca-Cola.
Taylor is grateful to all of these sponsors and stated that it’s easy for students to get involved in this year’s Shamrock Run.
“They can register online and come run in the race and enjoy the after party. They can volunteer to help us put on the race. They can spread the word to those that want to run the race or become a sponsor.”
