On March 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Peer Educators Educating Peers (PEEPS) held an event in the student union to help students make responsible decisions like using designated drivers while out on St. Patrick’s Day.
“The purpose of this event is to promote no drinking and driving on St. Patrick’s day,” said freshman accounting major Raquel Smith. “We would also like for those who drink to be responsible.”
The program offered students information on drunk driving and ways to prevent it such as taking the keys from friends who have been drinking.
After students talked to the PEEPS, they had the option of signing a contract saying they would be a designated driver to help stop their friend from drinking and driving.
A designated driver is a person that is chosen to stay sober in order to safely transport their friends and family to and from an event.
After signing the contract, students received a shirt that they could customize at a booth set up next to the PEEPS information table.
For more information on PEEPS or how to join the group you can attend one of their meetings in room 229 of the Student Union Ballroom.
