Due to the statewide burn ban currently in effect, the annual Homecoming bonfire, sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), may be relocated or canceled.
The bonfire is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Oct. 21, beginning at 8 p.m. If it occurs, it will take place on North Campus in the field between the University Center and the Alumni Center.
If the bonfire goes as planned, it will be open to anyone in the surrounding community who wishes to attend. Plans for the bonfire event include music, food and a lip-syncing competition hosted by the Dream Team.
A pep rally is scheduled to take place at 7:30 p.m., prior to the lighting of the bonfire, and the Homecoming court may be announced between these two events, according to SGA President David Cavell.
The bonfire and other traditions lead up to the Lions football game on Saturday night against the McNeese State Cowboys.
Information regarding bonfire can be obtained by calling the Dream Team at 985-549-2233 or SGA at 985-549-2296.
