On Monday, Feb. 28, the final day of Black History Month was ended with the event called Union Unplugged.
For the entire month of February, different events, such as the Quiz Bowl, were held in recognition of Black History Month and to educate students in events of the past and how they have affected things in the present. The Union Unplugged started at 11 a.m. and went on until 1 p.m.
The Union Unplugged consisted of two things. The first was music performed by the artist, Henry Stewart, and the second event was the series of booths that were set up.
There were organizations and businesses around Hammond, such as La Capitol Federal Credit Union and Avon product sellers.
The Union Unplugged was held in the Student Union on the ground floor making it easy for all students and faculty to get access to it as they were passing through to go to class and get lunch.
“This is something new that we were trying this semester,” said Brendan Daigle, administrative assistant for the office of Multicultural and International Student Affairs (MISA). “We also tried something like this on Valentine’s Day.”
“This event was helpful for us,” said Loren Aleman, a senior majoring in athletic training. “It gave us a chance to raise money for our group, the student athletic training association, because people were coming to check out the music and booths.”
