On Thursday, March 3, Kappa Alpha Psi held a career seminar to educate the men on campus and help them to better understand and create resumes.
The seminar started with Kappa Alpha Psi’s Isaac Antoine welcoming those in attendance.
“The seminar is a part of an annual event of interchanging topics titled ‘From Guys to Gentlemen.’ We have this event every year,” said Isaac Antoine, a senior majoring in supply chain management. “We change the topic of the seminars based on what’s going on in the community or what we feel the men on campus should know.”
Following Antoine’s introduction, all of the members of Kappa Alpha Psi stood and introduced themselves then the audience did the same.
During the lecture, Beverly Sellers told the men the things they should know about making a resume, like the significance of having a resume, proper attire for an interview and ways resumes can be fixed.
“A resume is like exercise, it takes time but in the end you will be happy with the results,” said Sellers.
She also talked about proper interview attire for when your resume makes it through and having respect for all people you come in contact with while waiting for an interview.
“You should have respect for everyone you meet,” said Sellers. “You never know how much power that that person you are talking to has, this includes the office secretaries.”
The Office of Career Services also provides alumni and students with a vast amount of information for helping with resumes, career counseling and assistance while searching for a job in their field of study.
“I mostly work with graduating seniors to help them show the world what they have to offer,” said Sellers.
Career services also posts all job opportunities that employers tell them about on their website under eRecruiting. This assists employers with hiring Southeastern students and alumni for part-time jobs, internships and full-time career positions.
