The Student Government Association (SGA) is in the process of fall 2012 campaigning and elections. Several SGA positions are up for election, including President, Vice- President, Chief Justice, all senate seats and justice positions.
“We want to see an election,” said William Takewell, current chief justice. Takewell also said that there will be 41 students elected to SGA for the 2012-2013 term. “So far we have 40 applications submitted for the various positions and it’s almost on track with last year’s numbers.”
Campaigning is scheduled to begin on Feb. 23 at 12:01 a.m. The polls will open at 8 a.m. Mon. March 12 and close at 4:30 p.m. March 14. As with this year’s Homecoming Court elections, a voting center will be set up in the Student Union Mall and all votes will be cast electronically.
The new leaders of the student body will be announced after the close of the polls on Wednesday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. The results are expected to be announced by 4:45 p.m.
An interest meeting will be held on Feb. 14–15 in the Student Union for all candidates unfamiliar with the election process, but is not open to the student body. However, there will be a presidential debate that will be open to students in the Student Union Theatre on March 6 at 6 p.m.
