The Battle of the Sexes competition ended Monday, April 30. The females won the competition with 773 transactions and a total of $4,615. The competition was sponsored by a partnership between RaceTrac and the university to raise money for Southeastern athletics.
It was held Feb. 1 through April 30 and awarded points to each gender for purchases, excluding gas, at all three Hammond RaceTrac locations. Students, faculty and staff were able to participate by showing their Southeastern I.D. to the cashier when making a purchase. Before the results were announced, many were eager to find out who dominated the competition and would be rewarded.
“We had a lot of students come in all day, every day to participate,” said Shane Alexander, Co-manager of the SW Railroad location. “It was a good competition to participate in.”
The female gender held a steady lead in the competition and was expected by many to win the competition.
“The tallies as of Monday, April 23 were females with $4,024 and males with $1,878,” said Erin Cowser, executive director of public and governmental affairs.
At the conclusion of the competition, everyone was a winner, and the female and male athletics programs both benefitted from it. RaceTrac will be donating $2,000 to the females for its athletic programs, in addition to sponsoring a female-only party. Although they did not win the competition as runner-ups, the males will receive $1,000. The guys had 402 transactions and raised a total of $2,445.
“The donations will be used to supplement funding for the sports programs of the Lion and Lady Lion student athletes,” added Cowser.
The date and time of the party will be announced soon. For more information about the contest, contact Cowser at 985-549-5861. To find out schedules, records and upcoming sporting events, visit the athletics website at www.lionsports.net.
